Identity, it has been said, is a theft of the
self. Who we are in the world and how we are identified is, at best, a
concession. Aspects of our identities are chosen, others
compelled. Ultimately, we are defined by things that are revealed
and things that are concealed. Hosted by researchers from On the Identity Trail,
the Revealed “I” conference brings together a stellar collection
of North American and European research talent from academic, public,
private, and not-for-profit sectors. Our two day discussion
focuses on the impact of information and authentication technologies on
our identity, and on our ability to be anonymous. Offering the
perspectives of youth, marginalized persons, artists, advocates,
academics, entrepreneurs, and governments, the conference will
investigate privacy and performativity, the psychological and social
construction of identity, and challenges posed by emerging surveillance
technologies.
This event will be preceded by a day long student
conference, where students from around the world, selected through a
peer-review process, will present their own research on themes relating
to the On the Identity Trail project.
Please bookmark this space for further details on the Revealed I, the
student conference and social events planned over the three-day period
for attendees at both conferences.
